LOEX's Artificial Intelligence Policy

Authors submitting to LOEX publications are not permitted to list artificial intelligence (AI) tools as co-authors.
If artificial intelligence (which includes for these purposes large language models) has been used as part of the authors’ research design, methodology, image generation, or figure/table creation, the authors should be transparent and describe the AI use in a methods section of their paper.
If authors are made aware of sources through AI tools, authors should seek out and directly access those information sources before before citing them in their paper.
Authors may not use AI tools to write their papers, but may use AI tools for editing or improving the overall readability of their own work before submission. Authors who use AI tools to improve their paper’s readability should disclose their use of these tools in a note to the editor upon submission of their paper. Tools that check for spelling errors, offer synonyms, or makes grammar suggestions are not considered AI for these purposes.
LOEX may update this policy as our understanding of AI tools and use evolves.
This policy was developed, in part, by reviewing the policies of Evidence Based Library and Information Practice, along with the Journal of the Medical Library Association.
