The LOEX 2014 local planning committee is pleased to offer conference attendees an optional pre-conference trip to tour the library on the main campus of Grand Valley State University, which is located in Allendale, 15 miles west of downtown Grand Rapids.
In June 2013, the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons opened to the public. This building is the intellectual heart of the campus and is receiving national recognition as a model for 21st century learning. The library is a learning laboratory where students can collaborate, get help with research or writing assignments, practice public speaking, or develop digital projects. About one-third of the space is quiet and contemplative and the remainder is designed for conversation and collaboration. Take a tour of our innovative building to learn more about our student centered spaces and services.
The tour will be offered at two different times to best accomodate people's travel plans. If you plan to attend, please let us know in advance which of the two buses you will take by sending an e-mail to attendees2014@loexconference.org. This will give us an idea of the possible number of attendees for each time slot. If you can not commit ahead of time, that is fine; you also can just show up at the Amway Grand Plaza hotel entrance at one of the two appointed times.
The last bus should arrive back at the conference hotel by approximately 4:45pm.
