Fort Worth Pre-Conference Trip

The LOEX 2011 program planning committee is pleased to offer a pre-conference trip to the
Fort Worth Cultural District and to the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.

The Fort Worth Cultural District is made up of wide-array of museums:
Kimbell Art Museum
, Amon Carter Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Museum of Science and Industry, and the National Cowgirl Musuem and Hall of Fame. There is not nearly enough time to do everything in an afternoon; each location has multiple attractions that can take many total hours to visit. You should plan on visiting just a selection of the attractions.

The Stockyards District has shopping, entertainment, dining and plenty of local flavor (e.g., Billy Bob's Texas, Maverick Fine Western Wear and The Fort Worth Herd). Again, it is likely you will just be able to visit a selection of the options.

Hours and Tickets:
Varies depending about the attraction, but here are a select few:

-Kimbell Art Museum: 10:00am-5:00pm; Admission to the museum’s permanent collection is always free.
-Amon Carter Museum: 10:00am-8:00pm; Admission to the museum is free.
-Billy Bob's Texas: 11:00am-2:00am (Mon-Sat) - no tickets necessary
-Maverick Fine Western Wear: 10:00am-10:00pm (Fri-Sat) - no tickets necessary

Admission tickets, if any are needed, are to be purchased by each individual at location after we arrive by bus.

This will be a self-guided experience and you are free to stay with a group of fellow LOEX attendees or break off on your own. There will be a LOEX 2011 Committee member on the first two buses to help ensure a smooth boarding process, and who are happy to “advise” the group of attendees on where to go, but they are not docents or museum experts. We looked in guided tours, but they required a monetary and time commitment ahead of time and restricted us to certain attractions; the LOEX Committee thought flexibility (in terms of arrival/departure, in terms of what attractions to visit) was more important and manageable.

Transportation
A bus that can seat at least 25 people will depart from the Omni Fort Worth main entrance at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 5, 2011. It will drop off those who wish to visit the Cultural District at 1:10pm, and then travel to the Fort Worth Stockyards historic district, with a drop-off at 1:20pm, and then return to the hotel. The bus will then depart again for the Cultural District at 1:30pm, doing a ½ hour, continuous triangle "loop". The last bus will leave for the Omni at 4:40 pm (Cultural District) and 4:50 pm (Stockyards). There is no charge for the bus.

Please let us know in advance if you plan to participate by sending an e-mail to attendees2011@loexconference.org, along with the attraction(s) you are interested in visiting. This will give us an idea of the possible number of attendees and where people might be going. If you can not commit ahead of time, that is fine; you also can just show up at the Omni Fort Worth entrance - we'll be happy to have you, though you may have to wait ~20 minutes for the bus.
