Nestled at the edge of downtown Minneapolis and located within a short walk through Loring Park or ride from the LOEX conference location, the internationally known Walker Art Center is a must-see contemporary art venue offering numerous galleries; educational programming; theatrical performances; street-level and rooftop terraces; plazas, gardens, and lounges.
The Walker Art Center library contains a comprehensive collection of books and periodicals, including artists’ monographs and catalogues from exhibitions held worldwide from the 1940s to the present, as well as files of small format ephemera and clippings for over 5,000 contemporary artists.
The archives includes materials dating back to the private collection of T. B. Walker in 1879 to Walker Art Center’s most recent exhibitions and events. The archives also holds thousands of photographs, documents, artist letters, publications, ephemera, audio, video and film that document the Walker’s long history with numerous artists and houses the Ruben/Bentson Moving Image Collection of over 1,000 titles from the silent era to the contemporary.
The Walker Art Center is a catalyst for the creative expression of artists and the active engagement of audiences. Focusing on the visual, performing, and media arts of our time, the Walker takes a global, multidisciplinary, and diverse approach to the creation, presentation, interpretation, collection, and preservation of art. Walker programs examine the questions that shape and inspire us as individuals, cultures, and communities.
The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, unites two of Minnesota’s most cherished resources—its parks and its cultural life. Since opening in 1988, the Garden has welcomed millions of visitors, showcasing more than 40 works from the Walker Art Center’s collections, including the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry. A partnership between the Walker and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, the Garden is a must-see destination for visitors of all ages. Open 365 days a year, from 6 am to 12 midnight.
